How this site is made

This site tells the story of a transformation, from human to machine, so some of its images are generated by artificial intelligence. Here is exactly which ones, how they were made, and what was not generated.

AI-generated

The portrait and the films

Starting from a real, unretouched photo of me.

  • The ‘machine’ portrait in the opening sequence, and its ‘transformation complete’ version at the end: generated by an image model (Gemini) with my photo as a reference, then aligned pixel for pixel with the original.
  • The moving eyes behind the work section and at the end: video loops generated from those portraits by an image-to-video model (Veo).
  • The film in which I conduct a room of robots: seven shots generated the same way, using my photo for the shots I appear in, then edited together.
  • None of these images is a photograph. They show a real person, me, in situations that never happened.

Handmade

Everything else

The art direction, the code and the editing are my own.

  • Cut-outs, alignment of the two portraits, colour grading, editing and transitions in the films.
  • The site itself: hand-coded, with no animation library. Scrolling writes a number; the stylesheet does the drawing.
  • The screenshots in the work section are real captures of the live sites. Nothing in them is generated.
  • I write the copy myself. Any figures come from the measurement tools named on each project page.

This page meets the transparency obligation in Article 50 of the EU AI Act, applicable since 2 August 2026: AI-generated or AI-manipulated content depicting a real person must be disclosed. As this site is a creative work, the disclosure is made without getting in the way: a note in the opening sequence, one on the film, one at the end, and this page.
